Penguin Pool at London Zoo

The penguin pool was designed in 1934 by Berthold Lubetkin and Tecton, the architectural practice which he founded. It was commissioned by Sir Julian Huxley, President of the Royal Zoological  Society, who had earlier commissioned Tecton to design the Gorilla House in 1932. The consulting engineer was Ove Arup working alongside Felix Samuely of J.L. Kier, the general contractor. The penguin pool was restored in 1987 by John Allan of architects Avanti and consulting engineers Ove Arup with the generous financial support of Lord Palumbo.

The penguin pool is listed Grade I by English Heritage.
